Gas Purges
Gas Purges are our specialty. We were asked to carry out a gas purge at a building that was home to a newspaper publisher and a gym. The issue our customer (the landlord) had was that they were paying a standing charge for a gas meter that they do not require. Our client no longer required gas. They have chosen to utilise electricity, including the use of solar panels.
Gaspipes.co.uk were required to purge all the natural gas from the pipework and cap the pipe off to make it safe. Approximately 30 meters of 3-inch underground pipe needed purging.
Free Site Visit
A site visit allowed us to arrange access with the gym staff. We do not charge for site visits. They are as important to us as they are to the client as a way to ensure we have adequate knowledge of the site. The plant room was only accessible through the gym and a treatment room. The staff allowed us to transport our nitrogen bottle through the gym and then to the treatment room.
The process began with our arrival on-site with our purge kit. This kit includes a box with all the fittings, the necessary hoses, and the purge stack. Another critical item was Nitrogen. The gas purge was performed using a bottle of Nitrogen that was connected at the building’s plant room.
This nitrogen was used to push the natural gas through the system. Gas was pushed out at the rear of the building at a safe distance. We had made our second connection at the meter where the purge stack was set up. We chose the process of ‘flaming off’. So when the gas reached the end of our newly created circuit, it was flamed off at the back of the building. Our flame arrester ensures the flame can only travel in one direction. Our gas analyser was connected at the stack to allow us to establish that we had removed all the natural gas from the pipe.
This was a straightforward, quick job that required minimum disruption for the client. The client no longer needs to pay for a gas supply they don’t need.
