Live Squeeze Off
Our industry is full of wonderful terminology. You will likely come across the need for a ‘live squeeze off’. A squeeze-off may be necessitated when a modification or repair is required to a section of pipework where there is no means to isolate a live branch. As touched on elsewhere on our website in the services section. Once satisfied the pipe has been sealed and all required checks are completed the work can begin. The clamps come in various forms, see the featured picture for one used in a recent project. These clamps can be used for most plastic pipework.
The featured image shows a recent live squeeze-off performed at Hospital in the Midlands. We were contacted by the main contractor to perform the squeeze-off. We are happy to support main contractors with certain technical jobs that require our specific help.
Our customer’s requirement was to perform a live squeezing-off 3 180mm MDPE gas mains, capping off the existing main and connecting to a new main. Each of the mains served 3 different buildings and was of course a sensitive site – a hospital. The Squeeze Off means that the rest of the supply can continue flow. Clearly, it would have been undesirable for the Hospital to go without its supply. Our two engineers, with the guidance of our Senior Mechanical Project Manager, managed to complete the job within the allotted desired timescales.
