What is a Gas Purge?
This is where a commercial or industrial pipe is being removed, replaced, repaired or amended. The pipes could be filled with flammable gases and will require the gas to be safely removed to allow for safe work to be carried out. Typically we will use Nitrogen, which we supply ourselves. This is an inert (non-combustible) gas to prevent the formation of an ignitable atmosphere. We do this to prepare for the safe introduction of flammable gases. The nitrogen, in combustion terms, is diluting the oxygen. Natural gas becomes dangerous when mixed with oxygen which is why a safe gas like Nitrogen is diluted with oxygen.
What then?
Once the purge has been complete work can be safely carried out ready for the safe introduction of the gas back into the pipes. If you do not have your own team to carry out the rest of the work our team are fully equipped to complete a full range of pipework projects. This can be the removal of pipes for decommissions, repairing, replacing or installing new pipework to suit your requirements.
